The smart, award-winning bike light for any ride
The Challenge
Beryl came to us with a simple question: what if a bike light solved every cyclist's daily frustrations?
Through journey mapping and user insight, one problem stood out, charging. Cyclists were constantly caught out by dead batteries, juggling multiple lights and cables in disorganised routines. The team wanted to reimagine the product experience entirely, not just improve performance, but rethink convenience, flexibility, and use beyond the bike.
The result was Pixel, a compact, intelligent light that works as both front and rear, toggling between white and red at the press of a button.
Outcomes
Its adaptable form factor lets users clip it to bikes, bags, helmets, or even their arm, making it just as useful for walking, running, or staying visible at night.
We led concept development and industrial design, working closely with Beryl's electronics and manufacturing teams to balance size, brightness, and ease of use. The final design was compact, intuitive, and unexpectedly universal, with cyclists quickly finding new ways to use it in everyday life.
Pixel became Beryl's fastest-selling product, won a Red Dot Design Award, and sparked a wave of community creativity, from dog-walkers to joggers to parents pushing prams.
Building on this momentum, we designed a dedicated running band to extend Pixel's impact even further.
Project Summary
Our process combined research, ideation, and seamless collaboration. We grounded the design in real-world needs, prototyped fast, and stayed hands-on with the engineering team throughout.
The final product wasn't just a better bike light, it was a multi-purpose safety tool that met people where they were. Small, smart, and genuinely versatile, Pixel proved how thoughtful design can light the way for more inclusive, more joyful journeys.
